Each country has a drink that exists only at Christmas.
1. Glühwein (Germany, Austria)
Glühwein is a kind of a very popular wine to be enjoyed at Christmas to arrive in Germany and Austria. Red wine-based drink is traditionally spiced with a combination of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and orange bitters. But the right ingredients can vary depending on the country and the personal preference of the author.
2. Wassail (United Kingdom)
The tradition of “Wassailing” in the United Kingdom is already done since the year 1400 ‘s. This tradition as a way to deliver good health and a desire among family and friends. Wassail cider based drink ale and hot.
3. Cola de Mono (Chile)
Literally translated “monkey tail”. Typical drinks of Chile it resembles eggnog, but served cold. In the form of cream mixed with rum or brandy, milk, coffee, vanilla, nuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove.
4. Glögg (Scandinavian)
Glögg is the Scandinavian version of wine, very similar to Glühwein. In Sweden and Finland, this drink can be found during the month of December, both containing alcohol or non-alcoholic beverages made with blackcurrant or grape juice. Spiced with cinnamon, cloves, raisins, almonds, and oranges. This drink is served hot.
5. Eggnog (Canada, United States)
While not known for certain where eggnog originated. Eggnog has become typical drinks of Christmas in Canada and the United States. Made from a mixture of milk, eggs, and sugar. Can be coupled with bourbon, rum, brandy, or any type of alcohol.
6. Ponche navideño (Mexico)
Christmas in Mexico is enjoyed with a drink Ponche navideño. The drink is made from fresh and dried fruit such as raisins, prunes, dried apricots, apples, pineapple, and papaya. Spiced with cinnamon, cloves, and citrus. If you want a version of alcohol, can add the rum.
7. Poppy milk (Lithuania)
In Lithuania, a traditional Christmas beverage prepared from the poppy seeds. Same as almond milk, this drink is made from simple ingredients i.e. poppy seeds, water, and honey. Poppy milk is a drink that must exist in the Christmas banquet.
8. Coquito (Puerto Rico)
Coquito recipe varies. But in General, the drink is made with condensed milk, coconut milk, vanilla, and spices such as cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. This creamy drink is served cold.
9. Sorrel Punch (Jamaica)
Christmas in Jamaica was celebrated with a pinkish brown. Sorrel Punch drinks made from a type of hibiscus petals known as pinkish brown, mixed with sugar, ginger, lime juice, and rum.
